Hello, this post is all about hamsters. I recently got a hamster and he is the cutest. There are many different species of hamsters. I have a Black Bear Hamster and his name is Winnie the pooh. Enough about me, you are here to learn all about hamster care. Hamsters are great first time pets.
***DISCLAIMER hamsters are very fragile so I would not recommend them as pets for small children and never listen to pet store employees.
So lets break this up into three parts: habitat, food, and toys. Lets start with habitat, this section is very important because so many people get confused. You will need a cage. I recommend two levels or a bin cage (there are many YouTube videos on how to make a bin cage). You need a wheel, the size depends on your hamster. You will also need bedding, three inches or more (always use paper based such as Care Fresh), a food bowl and a water bottle. The cage should be spot cleaned through out the week and fully cleaned at the end of the week, but you should leave a bit of bedding so they still have there scent. That reminds me never never bathe you hamster with soap and water, never. Now food is not that hard. There are many different kinds of hamster food. I recommend to get two kinds and slightly fill the bottom of the bowl with both. Hamsters need fruits and veggies. They should be fed every other day to every two days. You can also feed your hamster treats one to three times a week. They can pretty much have all types fruits and veggies, but the ones I know for sure are apples, pears, bananas, grapes, berries, carrots, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, romaine lettuce, spinach and other greens. Now on to toys. Hamsters teeth never stop growing so they need toys to chew on so it grinds down their teeth. Also, to keep them busy. These toys can be bought or made. I use toilet paper tubes as toys, anything card board, or untreated wood is safe. I hope I’ve encouraged you to help your hamster or even encouraged you to get one. Thanks for reading 🙂
